Victoria Newton in Concert

Returning to Perth in 08 is one Perth’s most phenomenal vocal exports. Vicky has a world-class jazz voice with the sublime ability to deliver songs and improvise with the finest musical interpretation. Vicky moved from Perth to London in 1990 and collaborated with acid-jazz recording artist Ronny Jordan and performed with popular latin/jazz-fusion band Cayenne. Her band supported Terence Blanchard at the Jazz Café in 1991. She has performed at the Soho Jazz Festival and at the Ingolstadt International Jazz Festival in Germany. She has worked with many leading British jazz musicians and appeared at venues such as Pizza the Park, The 606 Club, Pizza Express Dean Street and The Royal Festival Hall Foyer. Towards the end of 1994, Victoria became a pop singer with dance/pop group Strike. Their first single went to number 4 in the UK charts and the group appeared on various TV shows including Top of the Pops and MTV. The single had major chart success in many other territories, which took the band to Europe and Japan. Strike went on to produce another four UK Top 40 hits and a critically acclaimed album ‘I saw the Future’ . Since 1999 Victoria has returned to her jazz and latin roots. In 2002 she performed at The Fleece in Boxford and at jazz festival, Jazz on a Summers Day in Goring and South Park Jazz Festival in Oxford. Vicky will be joined by a hand picked rhythm section in her welcome back to WAAPA performance.
